Founded by Spencer Hutchings in 2016, our journey began under the name “Spencer Earthworks” with a single bobcat and a six-wheeler tipper. From those humble beginnings, Spencer’s passion for operating machinery and dedication to quality workmanship fuelled steady growth and a reputation for reliability.
As the business evolved, Spencer’s partner Liana joined the operation, learning the ropes on-site and later taking charge of the office. Together, they combined hands-on experience with strong family values to build something lasting.
In 2023, Bay Civil & Hire was born, expanding our services to include dry hire and meeting the growing needs of our valued clients.
The saying, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life,” truly reflects the spirit of our family business. Today, Bay Civil & Hire remains 100% locally owned and operated. Spencer can still be found on-site doing what he loves most, while Liana provides dedicated support from the office, all while they juggle the joys and challenges of raising their three young boys.
